Top 2 Hotels in Santa Clara, Villa Clara![]() Hotel Cubanacan Villa La GranjitaThis hotel, set in handsome grounds amid groves of Royal palms, about two miles northeast of town, is a twin image of the Villa Los Caneyes, on the other side of town. The architecture is inspired by the indigenous style and includes rooms in two-story thatched duplex sextagonal cabins. Occasional tour groups make use of it, but less so than Los Caneyes, and the upside here is the quietude, at least when canned music isn't blasting around the sundeck. The wood-paneled accommodations have simple hardwood furniture and pink fabrics. Some rooms are in a modern blocks. All are air-conditioned and furnished with satellite TV, telephone, and modern bathroom with marble counter-top. They're functional and somewhat homey, and the second-rate mattresses might give some patrons back-ache, but overall rooms are adequate for at least one night's stay. © 2009 Nigel Hunt
![]() Hotel Cubanacan Villa Los CaneyesThe nicest hotel for miles around, this rural enclave, about two miles west of town, is themed after an indigenous Taíno village. It is popular with tour groups and reservations are thereby recommended. The heart of affairs is the swimming pool served by an open-air bar and games room. There's also a tiny gym, and small beauty station where massages are offered. The atmospheric restaurant is usually overly air-conditioned; it serves mediocre buffet meals. Most of the 96 air-conditioned accommodations are in thatched octagonal bungalows broadly dispersed amid tree-shaded lawns. These cozy wooden quarters have tile floors and come with satellite TVs, telephones, refrigerators, and modern bathrooms. A newer two-story H-shaped block houses additional rooms, two of which are suites. These are far more stylish than the octagonal units and come with contemporary furnishings. © 2009 Nigel Hunt
