Moa, Holguín

Moa

Moa

Moa is an industrial city with approximately 90.000 inhabitants at Cuba's north-east coast and lies at the coast street from Holguín and Baracoa. The nickel mining is dominant.

The nickel mining impaired the nature strongly in the area Moa. Through the low conservation of the environment standards, loaded materials got into the nature. The reconstruction of processing-plants in Moa through a Cuban-Canadian joint venture should suffice more modern environmental standards.

This small seaside town is where flights from both Havana and Santiago de Cuba drop off holidaymakers on their way to Guardalavaca and the coast. Close to the provincial border with Guantanamo, Moa is connected to the town of Baracoa by a crumbling coastal road.

For tourists, Moa is only one passageway station on the way of Baracoa. In the nearer surroundings, there are not any sights. The Parque Nacional Alejandro de Humboldt on half way of Baracoa can be visited by Moa, however. The city even will fill only fans of heavy industry with enthusiasm before tropical scenery.
